Laker Fans This Is Needs To Happen

Published by grifter under Lakers Edit This

Shannon Brown should be in the Slam Dunk Contest. End of story.

Pass the word. Email the league. Put it up on every social networking site. Do whatever it takes.

That’s it, you may now go back to whatever it was you were doing.

The Long Hard Road For The Galaxy Comes To An End

Published by grifter under Soccer Edit This

A season that started slow picked up steam in second half only to see the Los Angeles Galaxy fell to Real Salt Lake last night in penalty kicks.

The Galaxy still have many things to be prouf of this season. Including but not limited to putting controversy to the side, Winning the west, Landon Donovan winning both the MVP and goal of the year, Omar Gonzalez getting the rookie of the year, The coach of the year Bruce Arena, a great run through the playoff’s, and making it to the MLS Cup Final.

Not bad for a team that seemed destined to have another sub par year.

I can’t wait until next year.

Lebron Is Wrong, The NBA Should Not Retire Number 23

Published by grifter under Misc Edit This

I’m going to throw my two cents in.

The NBA should not retire Michael Jordan’s number. Don’t get me wrong, Michael was the best player to ever play the game. That does not garner a retirement of a number across the board. Bill Russell won more championships. Babe Ruth single handedly changed a sport and saved it at the same time. Wayne Gretzky dominated his sport more than Jordan (not to mention broke more records). And I would say no to those numbers being retired.

Not to mention Lebron’s comments that today’s stars would not be here without Michael. I think he is wrong there also. Before Michael there was Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. They brought the NBA back to life. That rivalry captured a nation. The way they played made the NBA exciting to watch. Let’s also not forget that Dr. J was flying way before Air Jordan did.

Finally I think to retire Jordan’s number would be a slap in the face of Jackie Robinson. Major League Baseball retired Jackie’s number becuase of what he stood for. How he changed the game for African Americans and for the better. He was a great player but his numbers weren’t the greatest. But what he accomplished on life’s stage can never be touched.

Lakers Roll Past The Suns

Published by grifter under Lakers Edit This

The return of Andrew Bynum, after missing two games with a strained elbow, was a grand one indeed. Andrew scorched the Suns, going 13-18 for 26 Pts and 15 Rebs. Add 29 from Kobe and 12 boards from Lamar and you got yourself a Laker blow out. Final score: Lakers 121 - Phoenix 102.

The Lakers have again proved they are the team to beat in the West. The Suns came into this contest tied for the best record in the league. They left with a loss and reminder where they belong in the Pacific. Underneath the Lakers.

Galaxy play tonight, Possibly for David Beckhams Future

Published by grifter under Soccer Edit This

The Galaxy will be taking on the Houston Dynamo tonight at the Home Depot Center for the Western Conference Championship. The Galaxy are hoping to win their third MLS Championship, but they just might also be playing to keep Beckham.

You have to believe that if the Galaxy lose in thier quest for the championship, they will also be losing the most recognisable player ever to wear an MLS jersey. I just don’t see him sticking around for another year.

Love him or hate him. There’s no doubt that he breaks down defenses with incredible passes. He causes havoc. Which allows the Galaxy players to make runs whenever and wherever they please.

I will be at the game tonight and I hope it’s not the last for Beckham in a Galaxy jersey.

This Just In L.A. Soccer Fans!

Published by grifter under Soccer Edit This

In case those in L.A. have missed it, the L.A. Galaxy have made the playoff’s.

And not only did they make it, they turned their entire season around from a dismal beginning to win the west.

Maybe this David Beckham deal wasn’t such a bad thing after all…

The Celtics Scare Me

Published by grifter under Lakers Edit This

As a life long Lakers fan it pains me to say that the Boston Celtics scare me.

Cleveland did NOT get better. Shaq’s numbers from last year were infalted because of the way the Suns play offensively and of course because of Steve Nash.

The Orlando Magic were lucky to get into the NBA Finals last year. Vince Carter is not the missing link and they are still too young.

The only team that stands in the way of the Lakers repeating as champions in the 2009-2010 season will be the Boston Celtics. They have the players, the experience, and the best defense in the league. The latter being the biggest reason they will win the east and give the Lakers a run for their money.

All this depends on injuries of course. But remember what you read here today. You can thank me later.

A Relief Pitcher’s Worst Nightmare

Published by grifter under Angels, Dodgers, Misc Edit This

No it’s not seeing Albert Pujols smile just as you let go of your pitch. This is much worse.

It’s hearing of these songs play as you leave the bullpen:

What’s Wrong With The Angels?

Published by grifter under Angels Edit This

You might be saying to yourself: What kind of idiotic headline is that?

In all honesty your assesment of my headline would be right. Afterall the Angels bats have been on fire as of late and they have Major League Baseball’s best team batting average (.289 as of 8/7/09) so far this year. So what’s wrong with the Angels? Well, I’m not talking about right now, I’m talking about later on down the league rode.

Batting is never constant in Major League Baseball. It’s a rollercoaster ride with huge peaks and valleys. You could go 4 for 5 one night and 0 for 5 the next night. When you think about it the best hitters in baseball get 3 hits out of every 10 at bats. That’s 30% (.300 batting average) of the time you get a hit. But more importantly it’s 70% of the time that you don’t.

So while the Angel’s bats are on fire and they are winning games left and right. I’m just hoping that they didn’t peak to early. Im hoping that when playoff time comes around the Angel’s bats aren’t as cold as my ex-wife’s stare.

Lamar calls Lakers

Published by grifter under Lakers Edit This

Jim Hill of KCAL TV in Los Angeles is reporting that Lamar Odom called Jerry Buss yesterday Saturday July 19. He is apparently trying to repair any bridges that might have been burned by his agent Jeff Schwartz when he didn’t respond to a Laker offer.

I for one hope this is true. I want Lamar back. It will make a huge difference to have him coming off the bench. That is if he’s willing to do that again.

I don’t know what kind of contract players sign with agents (why is it that agents seem to have so much power over players when negotiations start. ie Trevor Ariza). Maybe they have to put all their trust in their agents and can’t enter contract negotiations. I have no idea. But even in that case can’t they fire them?
